The Challenge

West Midlands Police was struggling to engage with a 10,000-strong workforce through its existing intranet. Despite being the force’s main channel of internal online communication, the newsletter-style section was little-used with colleagues saying they were too busy and just not interested in looking at it. As part of a culture shift to establish this online channel as
an important business tool, we were approached to completely re-design the site.

The Solution

We produced a choice of designs which transformed the look and structure of ‘Newsbeat’, giving it a bright, vibrant new look with user-friendly features which made it more interesting, inviting and engaging. This included more images, a scrolling newsfeed, a Twitter feed, ‘related stories’ to encourage click-throughs, a ‘classifieds’ section and a regular ‘Lookback’ post of old photos from their files.

This is such an improvement on the old ‘Newsbeat’. I actually enjoy checking out the latest posts on it now, and it’s so much easier to navigate.

Proud of Our Achievements

We were proud to work with the police on a project which they considered crucial to their increasingly important internal communications. Due to their time constraints, we delivered to a very tight deadline – and we were delighted when the finished product went down so well with frontline staff.
